Local libraries may offer more than you expect. As well as books and magazines, libraries lend music, DVDs and computer games. Some have coffee shops and all offer free internet access. We need to use them or we will lose them.

Libraries

Newcastle City Library

33 New Bridge St W, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 8AX, UK – 0191 277 4100

Excellent public resource full of books/dvds/computers and local resources you can search. The shop has interesting books about local history. Cafe is lovely with helpful staff, lovely coffee and lots of food choices including gluten /dairy free options. The hand cut chips are lovely. The only downsides are the same for all public resources - difficulties keeping the toilets clean (on the ground floor) and also, without wanting to sound mean, no choice of who sits next to you. Usually it's a great place to work and read but you the most disruptive groups are the people who use it as a meeting place for chatting, whether that be the youngsters or the other groups that congregate here. A more regular clean of the toilets on the ground floor would help I think. And if you're a girl in your own, try to sit on a table with other girls to avoid being ogled.

Great library, good place to work and relax. Just a shame some of the people who use it are mostly noisy teens. Parking is all paid unless you walk ages.

High Heaton Library

Newton Pl, Newcastle upon Tyne NE7 7HD, UK – 0191 277 4100

A really nice and quiet library in where the staff are really nice. The main problem is due to the government cuts they are barely open and they mainly don't have as much books than they used to.

Friendly, community run library. Valuable local resource.

East End Library

Hadrian Square, Newcastle upon Tyne NE6 1AL, UK – 0191 277 4100

The staff are nice and helpful

Small library but nice. Also a swimming pool inside
