Care Homes

Residential care for the elderly in around Newcastle upon Tyne. Also listed are Nursing Homes and Residential Care Homes. Very much a starting point only but a useful reference none the less.
Wordsworth House Care Home

38 Clayton Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne NE2 1TL, UK – 0191 212 1888

I spent some time recovering from broken ankle. I was well looked after by cheery and efficient staff. The mood in the dining room was pleasant and helpful to some very helpless patients.

Wordsworth House cares for my grandparents and does a great job of it. Although it is very hot inside and there is no option to adjust the temperature, the people who work there are lovely, kind and thoughtful. Definetly one of the better care homes in Newcastle.

Eothen Homes Ltd

45 Elmfield Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne NE3 4BB, UK – 0191 213 0707

The most caring of care homes. Fantastic staff where nothing is too much trouble. Lovely facilities and fantastic location in the heart of Gosforth.

Byker Hall Care Home

Allendale Road, Newcastle upon Tyne NE6 2SU, UK – 0191 224 0588

My friend is staying here on respite care. She is happy here, but says the food is not always hot. The staff are friendly and helpful. Since my review, my friend has since died, which was a merciful release due to her many health problems. Her last few weeks were very happy with very good care given. On her behalf, I would like to thank everyone at Byker Hall for looking after her so well.

This care home gets 3 stars for the aesthetics within the building. Care wise, a relative of mine stayed here, within the space 5 weeks, became fragile and lifeless to the point we thought was dying, then needed hospital care. This in my opinion was due to the lack of care and support from some staff members. There was more care from family members, as we were told they could not help our relative in our out of bed and chairs. They would not aid getting off/on toilet. Water was thrust in mouth and therefore dripping down face and neck, our relative (who at this point had flu) was told to 'stop moaning, it was just water'! I'm glad to say our relative is still with us 2 months later and is no longer hanging out of bed or looking like they'd been sedated.

Belle Vue House

1 Stanmore Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne NE6 5SX, UK – 0191 209 0300

Kensington Nursing Home

Ayton St, Newcastle upon Tyne NE6 2DB, UK – 0191 265 2888

My brother in law has been in the Kensington for twelve years after suffering astroke he is always cheerful and happy when we visit and the staff are very friendly, helpful and under-standing. Eleven out of Ten for his care.

The home feels homely and the staff makes you feel welcome. They treat residents like their own family. The residents look happy and content.

Balmoral Court

2 Ayton Rise, Newcastle upon Tyne NE6 2DB, UK – 0191 265 2666

My mum has been in this care home since the beginning of the year and I have nothing but praise for all of the staff. Balmoral Court has been the best move we ever made for mum, she's now happy and content and they have brought her out of the awful dark place she was in mentally for several months beforehand, without any change to medication, which is fantastic. This home is spacious with several different types of rooms the residents are able to venture into giving everyone a sense of freedom. It is "care" that matters most in my opinion, not fancy decor and chandeliers that we have experienced in the past and this is what comes first here at Balmoral Court... "care" I cannot praise the staff enough, all our requests have been met and any teething problems resolved with immediate response. The manager made a very warming comment that sums this all up... "This is your mum's home, so therefore it is your home. If you want a cup of tea, make a cup of tea, if you want to eat with your mum then stay at meal times" This is a massive plus for me, as most care homes have strict policies where you feel you can't breath as a visitor. I must also add that whilst this is also "our home" Karleen runs a very tight ship and her prime concern is for that of the residents. All the staff here work extremely hard and are all very approachable. I can travel home in the knowledge that mum is well looked after and content. Dont be put off from other reviews, take a visit if your looking to get care for a loved one, I did and look at my mum now !! Thank you Balmoral Court.

Love working here. Staff are brilliant and always go above and beyond in caring for the residents.
